    Auslan in the community review

I am a complete beginner in Auslan. I found Lisa’s course very helpful, informative and insightful as an introduction to learning this language. Her videos were clear and paced very well, with good suggestions for practice. I would have liked to learn a little more about how the language is structured but I realise it is an introductory course.

Easy to understand. I feel I can now attempt conversations without feeling overwhelmed by too much at once. Lisa is also very understanding of family issues impacting on available study time. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn Auslan. Thank you Lisa

I did this course as wider field experience for my Diploma of Education. It was interesting and I feel as though I now have an understanding of why Auslan is important and the struggle that people who are deaf face in day to day life as well as the beginnings of learning to sign. I found that the activities helped me to best remember and read the signs and were therefore a very useful way to practise.
    Thank you

Previously, I have been teaching myself and profoundly deaf son via sign planet, you tube and the Auslan Signbank Dictionary. Your course has been what I have been looking for
and I was so happy to find it. I live in regional QLD and signing
courses are few and far between and run at night time which does not suit me at all, so the flexibility of this course was extremely appealing.
Your course gave me structure and sequence, the hand shapes at the beginning helped make sense of what I was doing and also (for me) made it easier to remember and recall when using and also when explaining to my partner and my children (who are keen learners). This course helped me to build on what I already knew, help consolidate and also put in sentences (correctly). I also found the introduction really interesting, particularly around deaf awareness and culture as that is something new for me and gave me insights into what things might be like for my son when he gets older.

I am really enjoying this course. The sign for GO was a bit quick for me to copy as I don’t have the best eye sight either. The rest has been really great. Thanks Lisa for putting this course on line. My hearing is going down hill fast so I really need this to communicate and be understood and understand others. I am playing the videos over and over again to cement them in my brain. Do hope everyone else is enjoying it too.
